Landmec Pottinger – Breaking new ground
Report - Tillage workshop August 2007
A Tillage workshop has been held on 22nd/23rd August and were located at Scarcliffe Grange Farm, Scarcliffe, Nottinghamshire. Over the course of two days Landmec Pottinger has been breaking new ground with its range of existing and new Pöttinger cultivation products.
With the working UK launch of the new Pöttinger Terradisc and Synkro T cultivators only a few weeks away at the AEA Tillage events, Landmec Pottinger held an in-house training event for staff from all divisions of its business to get to grips with new and existing Pöttinger cultivation products.
The team were able to get hands on experience with the equipment directly into a variety of post harvest situations including some patches of usually difficult laid wheat straw.
The Terradisc 5000K disc cultivator tackled these with ease, chopping the laid straw and stubble whilst mixing this with soil to allow rapid decomposing of the straw and establish a stale seedbed. This robust disc cultivator was impressive in its ability to penetrate the tough soil conditions and cope with the large volumes of soil being moved across its working width.
As far as big boy’s toys go the Caterpillar Challenger MT 765B and Pöttinger Synkro 6003T trailed cultivator made an ideal combination. It was easy to see how many acres in a day could be eaten up this combination with the high forward speeds being achieved. Upon closer inspection it was easy to see the full working width of 6 meter’s was being moved, levelled and re-consolidated giving an ideal weather proof finish. The configuration of three rows of tines meant that the Synkro 6003 T had sufficient ability to handle the laid straw without blockages and saw the best possible mixing with maximum output.
For the more conventional tillage regimes a Servo 45S 5F plough was also put through its paces on some heavy soil. Easy set up via the “Servomatic” adjustment centre and 36W plough bodies meant that ploughing at 18cm’s (7”) was achieved with ease. This shallow depth ensured the majority of the fields large limestone boulders stayed buried.
Of course an event like this would not be complete without an outing of a Pöttinger Terrasem 4000T Profiline trailed drill. This range of drills is fast gaining a strong reputation here in Great Britain as a true all-round performer capable of handling ploughed, cultivated and direct to stubble conditions. Over the course of two days the drill was well tested in a variety of situations and didn’t fail to impress. Those attending were also impressed by the drills ease of calibration and operation, something at which everyone present participated in.
Our thanks go to The Chris Bowring Farm Partnership and B & B tractors for all their assistance.
