Pöttinger innovation prize 2007
€ 10,000 for future-oriented ideas from the field
With its innovation prize the family-owned company Pöttinger acknowledges excellence in services benefiting the further development of agricultural technology. Focusing on "Seed and soil", Pöttinger is supporting a key sector in agriculture because good tillage and healthy soil is the prerequisite for ensuring profitability long-term. The official award ceremony with Managing Directors Heinz and Klaus Pöttinger took place at the Agritechnica 2007 trade fair in Hannover.
Good ideas and innovations in agricultural technology are key to growth in the farming industry and have the objective of supporting farming businesses in best meeting challenges for the future. Pöttinger promotes the future of agriculture by implementing high-performance technology, computer-assisted work processes and advanced mechatronics to form the basis for high productivity and efficiency in agriculture.
This year the focus was on "Seed and soil". A wide range of innovative projects and ideas were submitted. The jury of specialists, consisting of Dr. Gottfried Eikel (Profi magazine), Director Johann Sedlmeier (Triesdorf Agricultural Engineering College), Nick Fone (Farmers Weekly), Ass.-Prof. DI Dr. Helmut Wagentristl (Agricultural University, Vienna) and Managing Director Klaus Pöttinger (DI), assessed the entries based on fixed criteria such as practical relevance, increase in productivity and facilitating or improving machine functionality, as well as the overall innovation potential of the idea.
| The 2007 Winner is the Institute for agricultural machinery and fluid technology at Braunschweig University in Germany. Dipl.-Ing. Bernd Niemöller submitted the winning project "Seed drill preparation using high pressure water jet". A slit of adjustable width and depth is carved into the ground depending on the water pressure, flow rate and nozzle shape used. This offers the potential of using the slit as a drill for seed placement. The grain can be placed into the drill without complicated seedbed preparation in advance. The slit is then closed using pressure rollers. Pöttinger awarded the project EUR 7,000. | ![]() enlarge |
| The Second place with winnings of EUR 2,000 went to Bruno Villiger from Switzerland for his "Swiss Drill", a compact seed drill combination for universal applications. The Swiss Drill enables precision placement of fertilizer to the left and right of the seed drill at the same time as planting the seed. This seed drill also features three tanks – two at the front and one to the rear. To ensure optimum load distribution the seed is transported from the front to the rear by a suction blower. | ![]() enlarge |
| The Third place and prize money of EUR 1,000 was awarded to a project submitted by Ernst Hörr from Germany. His "Grubobema" (abbreviation for the German "Grund-Boden-Bearbeitungs-maschine" - Ground-Soil-Tillage-Machine) is a real all-rounder: from clod breaking through levelling with a disc harrow/packer roller combination to drilling; this machine handles everything in a single pass. |
