First Pöttinger JUMBO 10000 lands in Austria
biomass heating power stations employ the Pöttinger flagship
NAWARO Energie Betrieb GmbH, who operates three biomass heating power stations in the Waldviertel / Lower Austria, made it all possible: The first Pöttinger JUMBO 10000 starts operation in Austria.
The biomass heating power stations located in Altweitra, Rastenfeld and Göpfritz an der Wild employ the Pöttinger flagship JUMBO 10000 to harvest grass used for the generation of energy. The power stations produce 5 MW (Megawatts) of electricity and 20 MW of thermal energy and are fed with a mixture of wood chippings and grass.

Management at the power station company decided in favour of the Pöttinger loader wagon because it represented an increase in efficiency and an improvement to harvesting logistics. Other reasons included the huge volume of dry matter that can be transported at one time and the ability to supply grass to the power stations as biomass material in a form that can be easily processed, i.e. has the correct length of stalk. Minimizing and optimizing harvesting costs also increases gross profit for their cooperation partners in the agricultural business. As a result, planting grass for biomass as a sideline becomes more attractive financial proposition for farmers. |

Holz & Agrar Produktion GmbH with its headquarters in Altweitra, promotes the Waldviertel grass for biomass project. This includes planting and harvesting a type of grass that is being seen in use for this purpose for the first time in Austria. The agricultural and thermal energy properties of the grass used for biomass are extremely promising. From the point of view of agricultural ecology, environmental protection, improving soil and efficiency, they are unique compared to other types of plants used for the same process. The grass used for generating energy has a high yield of dry matter content and a calorific value often exceeding that of wood.
The decision in favour of Pöttinger was based particularly on the optimum price/performance factor, quality and reliability, as well as on the good availability of spare parts. The expertise of Pöttinger, the Austrian loader wagon specialist, was also a reason. The heat and power generation stations, which were commissioned in 2007, already work successfully with Pöttinger equipment: an Alpha motion front mower, a NOVADISC 730 disc-type mower, a HIT 69N tedder and a 421 windrower. Mowing, tedding, raking and loading - the entire harvest process is performed using machines supplied by Pöttinger, the grassland specialist.
