Pöttinger at home all over the globe
Johannes Stoiber reporting from Turkey
It is more than just the Austrian market to which Pöttinger owes its positive development and success over the last few years. Strong growth has also been due to success abroad. Pöttinger employees are in close with our international customers. That is how we received this travel log from Turkey by Johannes Stoiber, Area Sales Manager for Southeast Europe:
"With an area of around 800,000 km² this country is almost ten times the size of Austria, or more than twice the size of Germany. Turkey is heavily influenced by agriculture. Due to the climate here, many farming areas need to be irrigated. As a result, agriculture is associated with a great deal of labour. Despite this, farmers are optimistic about the future.
Our importer, Tarmar Tarim, accompanied me on my visit to one our customers in Turkey. In the central Anatolian city of Aksaray we visited the dealer HAKAN – VOLKAN Tarim Ltd. HAKAN – VOLKAN Tarim Ltd. is a family-run company that in addition to Pöttinger machinery also sells tractors and other agricultural equipment and also operates a farming business. Together with Mustafa Uyguntuzel for our dealership, Hakan Acar and his father drove with me a few kilometres out of town to the farm. The farm covers an area of around 500 ha, with about 200 ha used for alfalfa forage. Alfalfa is not harvested for silage - here it is mowed and baled as alfalfa hay.
This is then sold to large farms in Turkey, Iran, Syria and Israel: around 10,000 tonnes of alfalfa bales are sold every year. The remaining fields on the Acar farm are sown with grain crops and maize for silage: Hakan Acar has owned a CATNOVA 310 CRW for one and a half years and is very satisfied with it. He also has a EUROTOP 701 windrower, a TWIST 8001 muck spreader and a new trailed NOVACAT 3007 CRW. They have their sights set on more Pöttinger machinery because their new 210-horsepower John Deere 7710 tractor needs suitable equipment to pull."
