The financial year 2008/2009 developed to become the second-best year in Pöttinger's history with an overall turnover of EUR 223.7 million. Once again, nearly 1,200 dedicated employees and the worldwide network of sales partners have successfully contributed to this result.
| Pöttinger - The specialist in grassland and soil cultivation Grassland technology, accounting for 65 percent in the agricultural technology sector, is the main source of sales, followed by tillage at 25 percent. In the grassland sector, the difficult market conditions in eastern Europe produced a minus of 13 percent compared to the previous year, while the core markets in western Europe remained stable with Austria and Switzerland turning in a considerable increase on last year. Significant growth was also achieved in the soil cultivation sector with a 14 percent increase in sales on the previous year. Pöttinger also saw an increase in original spare parts business compared to last year with a growth of 9 percent. |

Our actions count
The international success of the company is due both to our commitment to business partnerships and to the innovative strength behind the family-owned company. Taking customer requirements into account led to the development of an extensive product range in agricultural technology and tillage. In the soil cultivation sector in particular, Pöttinger has managed to achieve above-average growth in recent years. The extent of their innovative strength was demonstrated in the last financial year: Pöttinger managed to achieve strong growth with ploughs (up 55 percent), with seed drill technology also growing by another 5 percent
Strong on the domestic market – Austria on top form
As a family-run business rich in tradition, Pöttinger naturally has close ties to the Austrian market and has grown with it. Farmers in the domestic market demand quality from Austria, which, despite the already high sales level and a generally difficult economic year, enabled Pöttinger to increase their previously high turnover by a sensational 19 percent. This level of strong growth was seen in both the grassland and tillage sectors.
A family company at home all over the globe
However, success has also come together with a high degree of internationalisation, although the main focus remains on western European markets. In the financial year under review the export share amounted to 82 percent with around EUR 182 million of sales revenues from international business. This was especially notable in North America where the family-owned company has secured a strong foothold with the two sales subsidiaries Poettinger US Inc. and Poettinger Canada Inc. realising an increase in growth of around 20 percent on the previous year. The largest growth came from tillage equipment in Canada.
Around 56 percent of agricultural technology turnover was attributable to five countries: Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and Czech Republic. The top five turnover growth countries in terms of absolute machine sales compared to the previous year are Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Canada and Bulgaria.
Stable core markets in western Europe
Western European core markets such as Germany and France have proven to be stable markets over the past year in which overall turnover could be maintained. The grassland sector showed a slight downturn while renewed growth was possible in the tillage sector with an average of 5 percent. In Germany, growth in tillage was around 20 percent; much stronger than the western European average. Product innovations, investments in customer service and Pöttinger's excellent image among future-oriented businesses enabled this level of growth in Germany.
Pöttinger AG Schweiz continues upward trend
Pöttinger AG has yet again completed the 08/09 financial year with a record result: 18 percent increase in turnover compared to the previous year. This result was thanks to a 17.5 percent increase in the grassland sector and 34 percent increase in tillage.
Agricultural technology with a future
Pöttinger relies on innovation, stable core markets and remains true to internationalisation Managing Directors Heinz and Klaus Pöttinger look to the future with optimism: "Pöttinger has always been convinced of the importance of agriculture: food and energy will always been in demand - after all, the increasing world population needs to be nourished sufficiently in the future and energy supplies need to be ensured. Consequently, there remains huge potential for agriculture and for Pöttinger. Our innovations and achievements today, such as global leadership in the loader wagon segment, our pioneering role in front-mounted mowers and our many years of experience in tillage and seed drills, form the basis for our continued success tomorrow. With this in mind we are well prepared for future challenges."
