8-wheel chassis on loader wagons: experience report
Heavy machines and high wheel pressures have put the focus on ground compression. Damp areas in particular are extremely sensitive to wheels exerting pressure on the ground. A shortage of oxygen and increase in detrimental gases have a negative effect on the formation of roots. The result is lower yields, a reduction in diversity of plant life and diminishing nutrient reserves. It is therefore critical that the right technology is selected. Pöttinger offers a new 8-wheel chassis to minimise ground compression on loader wagons. Keck, a German contractor, reports on his experience:
 |
Mr. Keck from Langenau, Württemberg / Germany has been using this new chassis for a whole season. His verdict is convincing: "No tracks are visible, even in worst-case conditions. The hydraulic compensation on each pair of wheels provides unbelievable stability, especially on slopes. Not to mention the smooth ride." When asked about the higher purchase costs he outlines the key factors in his financial calculation: "I have thoroughly investigated the cost/benefit figures. Considering that I have gained new customers due to the soil protection system, plus the power requirement in the field is lower and the low-slung design improves the path of the forage into the loading chamber; the higher price is well justified." |
"All in all, it's a completely different world. You really have to have driven with this chassis in order to really appreciate the advantages," he says in conclusion. With a wink he adds:
"For next year's harvest I have already got a number of customers who have booked the JUMBO with the 8-wheel chassis".
