Demo on the Azores
Machinery from Austria shines on the Portuguese islands
This spring, the PÖTTINGER Sales Promotion Team had their work cut out presenting machinery in action all over the world. In mid-April, they were in the Azores.
Farming is an important economic factor
The Azores is an archipelago consisting of nine large islands and several smaller ones belonging to Portugal in the north Atlantic, 1369 km west of mainland Europe. It is an autonomous region of Portugal and thus belongs to the European Union. The main island is São Miguel with an area of 746 km² and 140,000 inhabitants. The Azores has a sub-tropical climate with mild winters, reasonable summers and rich vegetation. Agriculture with cattle and dairy farms is the most important economic sector in the Azores. Milk, dairy products and beef are the main export products. More than half the population works in agriculture.
PÖTTINGER machines are used successfully in Portugal, which is why sales in the Azores is the next logical step. To familiarise farmers on the islands with our grassland and tillage equipment, a field demonstration was organised in cooperation with the PÖTTINGER importer VARZIAGRO and the dealership Cooperativa União Agricola C.R.L. The interesting event took place in perfect weather on the island of Sao Miguel, just outside the capital city of Ponto Delgada. The 150 to 200 visitors were deeply impressed with the productivity and smooth running efficiency of the equipment from Austria.
The following machines were seen in action:
- NOVACAT ALPHA MOTION 301 and NOVACAT 352 mowers
- HIT 6.69 six-rotor tedder
- TOP 702 C rake
- LION 252 power harrow
- SERVO 25 NOVA 3-furrow plough
