Finnish farmers for profitable milk production
Dairy farm relies on the performance of the PÖTTINGER grassland product range
Milkkivei Ltd. dairy farm is located in Nord-Savo, right at the heart of the Finnish Lake District. The main focus of the company is to provide the best possible care to the dairy cattle and to produce top quality silage. Antti-Lassi Tikka and his team work under the motto: "Cooperation for profitable milk production".
They have contracted out certain jobs, like slurry spraying, so that they can focus on their core competencies to remain as efficient as possible. Antti-Lassi Tikka has a Masters in engineering, while many of his partners in the company have university degrees in agriculture and business.
Three milking robots are in operation in the cowshed, milking more than 200 cows every day. Each cow produces around 11,750 kg of milk per year, an impressive figure that can be traced back to the breeding success of partner companies and sound purchases from other farmers. They also have more than 200 calves. "The grass silage feed is a key to our success", says Tikka.
"With the machinery we have purchased in recent years we wanted to put together a reliable, hard-working fleet that will remain efficient over the long term. We listened to many positive opinions about PÖTTINGER loader wagons and then finally made the best choice: a JUMBO 7210", says Tikka. They also purchased a NOVACAT 351 ALPHA MOTION ED front mower and a NOVACAT 302 ED rear-mounted mower. The equipment option with conditioner was a no brainer because they have relatively high precipitation. Their choice of machines has been ideally matched to their tractors and their operational requirements. Silage is produced on 120 hectares, with two cuts harvested every year. For Tikka it is important that the best digestibility of the forage is achieved.
