Pöttinger triples turnover

New record reached with EUR 303 million

The financial year 2012/13 is the most sensational year for Pöttinger in the company's 140-year history: with a turnover of EUR 303 million the Austrian family-owned company has managed to triple its turnover in sales in just over ten years. Consistent orientation towards customers' needs and a high level of innovative strength combined with many years of experience and the dedication of almost 1.500 employees form Pöttinger's cornerstone for this success.

The Pöttinger product range is as varied as the needs of its customers and extends from Alpine equipment especially designed for working in steep, mountainous terrain through to high-performance loader wagons that deliver pure productivity and efficiency. In the tillage and seed drill technology sectors Pöttinger has delivered enormous performance in terms of new development and now offers matching soil cultivation concepts ranging from straightforward, cost-effective solutions to extremely high-performance results to meet the highest specifications. Sustainable yield and ground conservation are two central themes in arable farming, to which Pöttinger does justice with all its technical developments.

Pöttinger has set competence standards with its products: ground tracking and crop protection, low drag resistance and lightweight construction of the machinery, high performance as the same time as high energy efficiency thanks to reduced diesel consumption as well as the unique paintwork quality of the machines. The reliability of the machines is ensured by Europe's most modern and unique agricultural technology test centre at the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIZ), where all innovations are put through their paces.

Integrity is a great deal more than a motto at Pöttinger; it is a value that we live day-in, day-out at our family-owned business. Regional proximity is also very important. That is why Pöttinger is constantly developing and supporting its worldwide network of dealerships and continues to drive internationalisation: during the last financial year, three new sales subsidiaries were founded in Great Britain, Ireland and Belgium.

Pöttinger gathers a sensational harvest: tillage exceeds all expectations

Grassland technology, accounting for 61 percent in the agricultural technology sector, is the main source of sales, followed by tillage at 26 percent. Compared to the previous year, the grassland sector achieved a growth of almost 3 percent. Tillage developed extremely well over the last year with a sensation increase of around 23 percent. This strong growth was driven in particular by the numerous product innovations, especially in the tillage sector. The positive market situation also contributed to this result. Sales in the core markets of Austria, Germany and France saw major growth. Export markets such as Ukraine, Denmark, Czech Republic and the USA also developed very well compared to the previous year. Pöttinger also managed to grow original spare parts business by around 8 percent compared to the previous year. 

Based in Austria - new record in Austria

With an increase of 6.5 percent over the last financial year, Pöttinger achieved a new record on its domestic market. As a family-run business rich in tradition, Pöttinger naturally has close ties to the Austrian market and the consistent rate of growth here clearly shows that quality made in Austria is still an important factor for local farmers. Pöttinger is especially pleased with this result and Austria remains one of the strongest markets with a total turnover volume of around 16 percent.

At home all over the globe - international success

Success on the domestic market has also come together with ongoing internationalisation. In the financial year under review the export share amounted to almost 84 percent with around EUR 254 million of sales revenues from international business. 

Almost 70 percent of agricultural technology sales was attributable to six countries: Germany, Austria, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Poland. The top five countries for growth in turnover in terms of absolute machine sales compared to the previous year are France, Austria, Germany, Great Britain and Ukraine.




The French market also exceeded all expectations with an increase of 21 percent in this financial year. With a 13 percent share of total turnover, France represents one of the largest and most important markets. In Germany, an increase in turnover of 3 percent was achieved during the last financial year compared to the previous year. The newly-founded sales subsidiaries are off to a very good start with sensation growth: Great Britain is up 36 percent, Ireland 60 percent and Belgium 20 percent. For Pöttinger it is clear that it is worth investing in regional customer proximity.

The CIS region (up 26 percent), North America (up 20 percent) and Overseas (up 20 percent) also grew well on the previous year. Western Europe grew 8 percent overall.
