Basis for success

The basis for your success

The best forage is always worth it, for farmers as well as contractors. Focusing on the highest quality forage also helps contractors and forage dealers maintain excellent relations with existing customers and win new ones.

As a contractor

Your task is to harvest the best forage for your customers as quickly as possible. To encourage customers to stick with you in future, you need to ensure they are satisfied over the long term. The success of a farmer’s business depends on the quality of the forage you collect for them. If the farmer cannot fully exploit the potential yield of their herd, there is a risk of losing them as a customer if they choose to look elsewhere. That gives you sufficient reason to do everything possible from the outset to keep the customer satisfied. PÖTTINGER agricultural technology provides the ideal basis for this because it ensures optimum ground tracking and consequently minimal dirt ingress. It is designed for maximum crop protection and highest output. This is doubly important because the best forage has only a short wilting period and you are already due at your next customer.

As a farmer

Because: High yield livestock need a high quality basic ration. Ruminants are fussy about their forage. The quality of the basic ration they are given, in other words its energy content, digestibility, odour and taste, determines whether your animals consume large amounts of it. What they like most is basic ration that is clean and tasty. The amount of concentrates used can be reduced. This cuts forage costs while at the same time improving animal health. Healthy livestock reward you with higher fertility, a longer useful life and, crucially, higher milk and meat yields. The bottom line is that you benefit from clean, high quality forage with more profit generating from your farm business.

Reliability

Reliability in action

Farmers and contractors have to be able to count on the reliability of their machinery. Any equipment downtime can quickly cause major costs. Regardless of whether the sun is shining or it is raining, or whether you are baling straw, hay or silage - reliability in all operating conditions is a key feature of the PÖTTINGER IMPRESS.

Reliability in all conditions

PÖTTINGER devoted particular attention to reliability in the development of the IMPRESS. Tangential crop flow into the baling chamber, optimised bale starting volume, and four starter rollers on the variable chamber models to ensure a reliable start to the bale. This is also ensured even in difficult operating conditions such as in brittle straw and wet silage while using up to 32 knives. The reliability of the IMPRESS in combination with a short-chop system was previously not available on round balers, especially when baling straw.

Reliable operation

Regardless of whether the sun is shining or it is raining, or whether you are baling straw, hay or silage - reliability in all operating conditions is a key feature of the PÖTTINGER IMPRESS. The controlled pick-up collects all the crop and transfers it to the rotor. Even if it is wet autumn grass, working on a downwards slope, or both. The newly designed forage flow keeps the chopping system clean and operating reliably. The cleaning rollers keep the belts clean to ensure the bale is always rotating. Once the bale has been formed, it can be tied with net or binding film.

38,000 bales with one set of belts

"We have been using PÖTTINGER products for 25 years and are pleased with their reliability. That was also the reason why we bought the IMPRESS 155 V PRO in 2016. Now it has 38,000 bales on the counter - about 75 % with straw and 25 % with hay. So far, the main drive chains have only been replaced once and the smaller chains twice. The belts are still the originals. The baler is extremely reliable and does a great job. Typical PÖTTINGER." - Vít Řehounek (Ing.), ZEAS a.s. Pod Kunětickou horou Pardubice Region | Czech Republic

Round baler with fixed baling chamber

Fixed chamber balers are suitable for all operating conditions, but are particularly well-known for baling silage. Their robust design with 18 compression rollers ensures reliable bale rotation at the highest baling pressures and shortest chop lengths. The PRO achieves 36 mm when using all 32 knives, the MASTER 72 mm with 16 knives. The baling chamber is driven by 5/4" high strength simplex chains equipped with automatic chain greasing and tensioning and is durable and reliable. The tensioners have clear indicators for easy adjustment.

Customer feedback

Feedback from our customers

Farmer and contractor Willie John Kehoe shows IMPRESS 3160 VC in action

Together with his father, farmer and contractor Willie John Kehoe runs a haylage and dairy cattle farm in Foulksmills (Wexford, Ireland). The IMPRESS 3160 VC is used to bale haylage, silage, hay and straw. Its highlights include the powerful pick-up, the ergonomic knife bank and the chassis-mounted wrapping system. So far they are impressed with the IMPRESS!

Short chopped length and binding film for the best forage quality

"Our aim is to produce the best quality forage possible - this is very important to us and the IMPRESS is the best choice for achieving this. The 32 knives and top-mounted knife bank (you can change knives while standing) offer us a great advantage over other manufacturers' machines. With the film & film binding, the bale is held together more securely, which also prevents air entering and ensures the best forage quality. In addition, the compact, stable bales are easier to handle during transport and storage and provide better protection against damage. We mainly use the IMPRESS in silage and straw. We have also used it to chop barley straw with 32 knives and got some very positive feedback from our customers." - Thomas & Josef Lustenberger, farmer and contractor Seetal in Ct. Lucerne | Switzerland

Automatic tailgate saves time

Stéphane Simon of GAEC Simon France is enthusiastic: "The IMPRESS gives me maximum versatility in operation, regardless of whether it is with grass or straw. In the field I appreciate the performance of the floating pick-up, the high chopping quality with the 32 reversible knives as well as perfect bale formation with a very high density. I am also really pleased with the automatic tailgate function, which saves me a lot of time." - Stéphane Simon, farm manager Normandie | France

Landwirt report

Still unbeatable in an independent comparison

Arrived as a newcomer and left as the challenger. Our IMPRESS in the Landwirt magazine comparison test.

"The IMPRESS from PÖTTINGER has some special features: It chops shorter than all the others, it has a pull-out knife bank and it feeds the bale material via the rotor into the baling chamber."

Neat work

On the baler market, PÖTTINGER is still a newcomer compared to other manufacturers. These round balers were developed from the ground up and have only been on the scene since 2016. We know from past field trials that the baler can handle any challenge. This has been confirmed by the mainly above-average results recorded by the BLT research and testing institute in Wieselburg, Austria. Despite producing high density bales and having the highest number of knives, it needs less power for compaction than most of its competitors. Together with John Deere, it was the most energy-efficient machine in the test.

Clean and tidy raking work

The PÖTTINGER pick-up was awarded top marks. The test drivers agree: It picks up the crop best - even downhill. With a width of 1.98 m - measured from outer tine to outer tine - the pick-up was the widest in the test. The pick-up's float range was impressive. As a result, it adapts well to undulations in the ground. Weight alleviation is provided by suspension springs. The controlled tines are divided into five rows. The jockey wheels on our test machine were floating and trailed. Spacer sleeves can be used to limit the vertical downwards travel path, which has an advantage when driving fast in straw. We noticed one more special feature about the pick-up: The scrapers are open underneath. This helps to remove stones and dirt. The rotor rotates upwards, unlike the other balers. The intake capacity is similar to the other machines in the test. If you look behind you while baling straw, you get the feeling that the rotor is about to clog. But that is not the case.

Finely chopped effortlessly

As mentioned above, the low power requirement of the baler was the biggest surprise for the team of test technicians. With 32 knives, it achieves a theoretical chopped length of 36 mm. And it does that right up to both edges: The gap between the outermost blade and the edge of the bale is only 41 mm. This is still less than the theoretical chopped length of all the other machines in the test. Ultimately, Pöttinger has the best knife configuration. The short-chopped forage in PÖTTINGER bales can be distributed more easily at the feed barrier and can be mixed more quickly in the mixer wagon.

Knife changes

Lots of praise for knife changes: The knife bank can be pulled out to the side of the machine at a convenient working height. The system is equipped with twin-blade reversible knives. Service life can be doubled by turning the knives around. Each knife is secured by a spiral spring. Two mechanically switchable groups of knives are available: 8, 8, or 16 on MASTER models, and 16, 16 or 32 knives on PRO models. In addition, 8 knives can be individually disengaged. Hydraulic group switching using the tractor terminal is also available as an option.

Bale ejection

We really liked the way the bale is ejected. Once the bale is finished, the pick-up lifts automatically - you then have to stop immediately - and the pick-up lowers again after the bale has been deposited. The bales remain where they are deposited, even on steep ground. A folding bale catcher is also available.
