Our roots are in grassland farming, and we have been continuously developing our expertise in arable farming over the past 50 years. 25 years ago, we entered into seed drill technology, opening a new chapter and creating the basis for impressive new developments.
From vision to leading sowing technology expertise
Our journey to becoming an arable farming specialist began in 1975 with the purchase of the Bavarian Plough Factory in Landsberg am Lech. This strategic step marked the beginning of our focus on arable farming. In 2001, there was the next major milestone: Following the acquisition of the Rabe seed drill plant in Bernburg, we expanded our product range to include mechanical and pneumatic seed drills, as well as mulch seed drills.
Today and tomorrow: Future focused sowing technology
In 2026, we are celebrating 25 years of sowing technology at PÖTTINGER. This success story is characterised by ongoing development, technical precision, and a deep understanding of the requirements of modern agriculture. With the new PURO precision planter and the further expansion of our portfolio, we are continuing our mission of offering innovative future focused solutions for arable farming.
2001:
Acquisition of the seed drill plant from Rabe in Bernburg, Germany, sees PÖTTINGER enter the seed drill technology market. The VITASEM mechanical seed drill, AEROSEM pneumatic seed drill, and TERRASEM mulch seed drill join the product portfolio.
2003:
Launch of the pioneering TERRASEM mulch seed drill generation sets new standards in sowing technology.
2009:
VITASEM mechanical seed drill revised for more precise seed metering launched at Agritechnica.
2012:
Launch of direct fertilisation system on TERRASEM mulch seed drills.
2013:
Launch of the new generation of AEROSEM pneumatic seed drills, awarded Machine of the Year.
2015:
Launch of the flexible TEGOSEM hopper for soil preparation implements and seed drills to increase versatility.
2019:
TERRASEM mulch seed drills joined by the TERRASEM CLASSIC for low draft, high output drilling.
2020:
AEROSEM F seed drill joins the AEROSEM series in combination with the AMICO front hopper.
2021:
Launch of the latest AEROSEM VT trailed seed drill combination.
2022:
Takeover of the Italian manufacturer MaterMacc Spa. results in gain of expertise in precision planter technology.
2022:
The AMICO front hopper teams up with tillage implements to become well-established.
2025:
PURO precision planter prototype presented at Agritechnica with an expansion of the AEROSEM F seed drills for front hoppers.

AEROSEM 4002 FDD: "Wide range of applications"
We opted for the AEROSEM F for several reasons. Firstly, the pressurised hopper with dual metering gives us the flexibility we need in wet years to sow oil seed rape and deposite slug pellets at the same time. And secondly, the coulter rail with DUAL DISC coulters offers the reliability of precision drilling, even if there are still maize residues on the soil surface. The distribution head is also a major advantage for us. We have sown wheat, oil seed rape and ryegrass so far, and the seed emergence is very good, everything positive so far."

TERRASEM C6: "Conserving the water in the ground."
"We farm 250 hectares on our own land and drill 700 hectares for third parties as a contractor. We use a TERRASEM C6 WAVE DISC, so we are very flexible in terms of different site conditions. In spring weather conditions, more homogeneous germination is achieved on loam soils. With the WAVE DISC system we conserve the water in the soil. What is more, herbicides work better because the crop protection film remains on the areas of the soil surface that are left intact."
